When you use the standard Debian kernel, you get the security support from the Debian project. I think this is really important. But if you are running Debian on a system that really needs a few patches to function well, you'll have to somehow take the fully patched Debian kernel and add a few of your own.
My master's thesis for Embedded Systems at the University of Twente: modelling, simulation and realisation of a funny device that has many aspects typical to cyberphysical systems. For now, just the Dutch text that I wrote for the FabLab Enschede detailing the building of the physical device: the FabMoment. This will be extended later, but don't hold your breath.
